Rob Report: What is Acceptable in the Pre-Swing for Great Players?

By on April 29, 2014

Hey Everyone!

This week we are talking about pre-swing.

When we talk about our Pre-Swing, we are looking at the following:

  • Ball Position
  • Hand Position
  • Posture
  • Grip
  • Width of Stance

Take a look at the video below. I go over several tour players and the key points for every pre-swing. I also give you some pointers on how to really make the best out of your pre-swing stance and positiong.

Here are few things you can do to keep yourself in check:

  • Spacing. How far is the butt end of the club and your thigh. You should be able to have at least one hand span between your thigh and the butt end of the club.
  • Butt End of the club should hit between the naval and your belt line. It should be the same if it’s an iron or drive
  • Distance and Height.
  • One Arm Look-You should only be able to see one arm (from a line view)
  • Hand Position should be about a hand span off of the body

Thanks for checking in with me this week for the Rob Report. Stay tuned for next week’s topic. If you have any questions or would like to work on your swing with myself or Charlie at Reynolds Golf Academy please email

I like the video, and it reminds me that there are so many variables to consider when hitting a golf ball. So if I am consistently mishitting a particular shot, maybe I can figure out what I am doing wrong!
