Golf School or Golf Lesson?

A common question when people call the golf school is… “Would I better off with private golf lessons or a 3-day golf school?” The answer…It all depends on what you’re looking for. Golf Schools and private golf lessons have for more in common than do apart. But, I’ll provide a few of the things that make the experiences a little different.

Benefits highlighted of a golf schools. Busy Golf School

  1. Focused- As a teacher, I look forward to having the opportunity to work with someone for 3 consecutive days. I can see almost every repetition and be sure that they are practicing correctly. A good teacher will keep you focused on the right things and in 3 days a person can see some awesome results.

  2. Lots of reps- Reps done correctly, with feedback, leads to real improvement and clarity. You can have a great private golf lesson, but if you don’t have the time to put in some reps, it’s very difficult to make the change.

  3. Access to a Top Teacher- Depending on the school you attend, it may be your chance to learn from one of the best teachers in the world. I would ask when booking, “is the Headliner the lead instructor in the school? At many of the top schools, you may never even see the “headline” teacher. Some of them are great at attracting, retaining, and training their staff, but its still not the headliner.

  4. Time Sensitive- You basically cover every aspect of the game in 3 days.

  5. Comprehensive- see #4.

  6. Camaraderie- If you like meeting new people. Sharing experiences with others. Golf school can provide that connection and bonding.

Benefits highlighted of a Private Golf Lesson

  1. One-on-One Attention

  2. Self-pace, spread out (i.e. weekly lessons)

  3. Easier on the body

  4. Customizable- Schedule is driven by your needs (i.e. more time in the sand, or more time doing solid-contact drills, less time putting)

  5. Consistent Coaching

Personally, I prefer total emersion. You consume lots of good info, take good notes, a great instructor puts it all on video for you to refer back to. But, I know many of you enjoy a slower pace, visiting an instructor on a regular basis and receiving consistent feedback. Truth be told finding a good instructor locally can be a challenge and a golf school may be the only and best option in those cases..
